Dr. Erik Randall Huber, FEBU, FECSM

Roots

I spent my childhood and youth in Laxenburg and Gablitz in the Vienna Woods, and graduated from the Sacre Coeur High School in Pressbaum. I then decided to study human medicine at the University of Vienna. This was followed by several valuable stays abroad in Spain and the USA, where I still have numerous relatives. The name "Randall" is related to my American roots.

Postdoctoral Training

After two years working in cardiac surgery at the Medical University of Vienna as a transplant coordinator and after an internship with the internist Univ.-Prof. Dr. Fitscha, I began my general medical training at the SMZ-Ost Donauspital. During this time, I obtained additional diplomas from the Austrian Medical Association in sports medicine and environmental medicine, as well as the emergency doctor and continuing education diploma.

Training as a Urologist

At the Donauspital, I discovered my passion for urology. Therefore, after the "jus practicandi" (general practitioner), I went to the neuro-urology department of the University Clinic Innsbruck for training in the field of urology and completed it at the Korneuburg Hospital.

Expertise

Due to my expertise in the fields of neuro-urology, incontinence, and pelvic floor, I was a senior physician at the urological department in Korneuburg Hospital from 2008 and since 2009 head of the pelvic floor center in this hospital. Until May 2013, I also ran one of the most successful private practices in the 9th district of Vienna. Since June 2013, I have been fully concentrating on my new area of responsibility as a urological contract doctor in Vienna (20th district), where I want to explore new ways to provide optimal urological care for people.

Science

Even during my studies, I was interested in scientific medicine. This is reflected in my numerous publications and lectures at international scientific congresses. As a committed doctor, it is important for me to always stay up to date and inform colleagues about new valuable findings in the field of urology.

Commitment

Since 2002, I have been active in the professional politics of the Vienna Medical Association and, as head of the environmental department of the Medical Association, I have achieved Europe-wide recognition with the "10 medical mobile phone rules" I created. I wrote the book "Nebenwirkung Handy". For this commitment, I was awarded the Golden Badge of Honor of the Vienna Medical Association in 2011.

Responsibility

From 2007 to 2012, I was chairman of the training commission in Vienna and deputy chairman of the training commission in Austria, responsible for all training matters of young doctors in Austria. Since 2012, as a board member of the European Urology (EBU), I have been responsible for the quality of urological training throughout Europe. Since 2013, I have represented European urologists on the European interdisciplinary committee for sexual medicine (MJCSM).

Leisure

When my free time allows, I passionately engage in road cycling and mountain biking. Unfortunately, my training sometimes only consists of the daily rides to my workplace and back home. A big goal of mine is to complete the four mountains and 238 km of the Ötztal Cycle Marathon. I can best relax by going on ski tours and diving. However, my most important life contents are my two children, who give me energy and constantly motivate me to new achievements.

Guiding Principle, Motto, and Role Model

The focus of my medical work is the encounter with people. Therefore, the therapeutic conversation in my practice has a particularly high value.

If it is possible to create a common reality from the individual realities of patients and doctors, the prerequisites for successful diagnostics and therapy are given. An informed and competent patient can thus decide for themselves, so that Hippocrates' motto "The patient is the doctor and the doctor his helper" still holds special validity in our urology center after 2000 years.
