Preventive check-up for women

Screening examinations for women are an essential part of preventive healthcare and help to identify and treat urological problems at an early stage. Although urology is often seen as a male domain, almost half of the patients at the Urology Center Vienna are women. Frequent reasons for examination are urination disorders, repeated urinary tract infections and sexual problems.

Why do women need a urological check-up?

Screening is important to detect diseases such as kidney and ureteral stones, bladder cancer and kidney tumors at an early stage. Regular urological check-ups help to prevent health problems or treat them at an early stage, which increases the chances of recovery. At the Urology Center Vienna, care by a urologist is also offered on request to ensure the most comfortable and confidential examination situation possible.

When should a check-up be carried out?

It is recommended that women have an annual urological check-up. This applies in particular to women with risk factors such as frequent urinary tract infections, a family history of bladder cancer or other urological diseases. Women should also pay more attention to their urological health after the menopause.

What you need to consider before the check-up

There are no special preparations for a urological check-up. However, it is helpful to bring a list of current medications and an overview of any previous urological problems or treatments. This allows the urologist to get a complete picture of the patient's health.

Procedure of the preventive medical check-up

The screening examination usually consists of several components:

  • Medical history: detailed questioning about current complaints, medical history and family history.
  • Physical examination: Examination of the kidneys, bladder and external genital area.
  • Urinalysis: Test to detect infections, blood or other abnormalities in the urine.
  • Imaging procedures: Ultrasound examinations to assess the kidneys and bladder.

Results discussion and consultation

After the examination, the urologist discusses the results with the patient and makes recommendations for possible treatments or further examinations. If necessary, treatment is initiated or specialists are consulted.
